02 Mar My Health Journey with Güven Hospital in Turkey
Why I Decided to Seek Treatment in Ankara, Turkey
I often get complimented on my smile. Teeth are one of the first things people notice, and I have always taken pride in keeping mine healthy. After I stopped smoking, I became much more intentional about dental care, regular check ups, and long term habits.
Unfortunately, there was one tooth at the back that I arrived too late for. After a root canal, the tooth eventually broke and could not be saved. An implant became the only option.
While researching treatment in London, I quickly realised how expensive and fragmented the process could be. Around that time, a friend introduced me to Güven Hospital in Ankara, one of the leading hospitals in the city, known for its full service approach and high medical standards

Why Turkey, and why Ankara
Turkey is well known for health tourism, particularly dental care. Many people immediately think of Istanbul, and for good reason. However, Ankara is the capital of the country and home to some of its most established medical institutions. It has a calmer pace and a more structured, professional feel, which felt reassuring when travelling for health reasons.
Choosing Ankara turned out to be a very balanced decision.

The first visit and overall experience
The journey was simple. I flew into Istanbul and then took a short internal flight to Ankara. Güven Hospital offers a full concierge service, and everything was organised from the start, including flights and transfers. I even had the chance to fly business class with Turkish Airlines, which set the tone for the level of care and hospitality I would experience.
Upon arrival, I was taken directly to the hotel, located very close to the hospital. The following day, I visited Güven Hospital’s main facilities in the city centre, met the team, and completed a full health check. Everything felt calm, professional, and human.
Later that day, I visited another part of the Güven Hospital campus focused on wellbeing and recovery. I spent time in the gym, joined a yoga session, and ended the day with a massage. It was clear that recovery was treated as part of the journey, not an afterthought.
The procedure
The dental procedure itself took place the following morning. I met the dentist early and went through the final checks with the team. Measurements had already been taken the day before so the implant could be made specifically for my jaw. By the time I arrived, it was already prepared.
The surgery was quick, taking less than an hour, and handled with great care. Everything was explained clearly, and the atmosphere was calm and reassuring throughout.
Afterwards, recovery continued back at the hospital campus, including time in the nutrition area and later a traditional Turkish massage at the spa. That evening, we were invited to dinner at a well known restaurant in Ankara, which was a relaxed and welcoming way to end the day.
Returning to complete the treatment
Dental implants require two visits. Returning to Ankara to complete the process was even easier than the first time. This visit lasted just over a day.
I checked in at the hospital and met Dr. Atilla Alexander Akgöl again, along with his team. After a review and consultation, I was asked to return the following day once the final tooth was ready. The timing was seamless.
During this visit, I stayed at a different hotel, also close to the hospital, which had its own spa. Even on a short stay, there was time to rest and enjoy a traditional Turkish massage.
The final procedure went smoothly. The tooth was fitted without any issues, felt completely natural, and it was a genuine pleasure to bite normally again.
Final thoughts
I am deeply grateful to Güven Hospital for the way this entire experience was handled. A special thank you to the marketing team, and particularly to Elif, who was an incredibly kind and attentive host throughout. My thanks also go to Dr. Atilla and his team for their professionalism, clarity, and care at every stage.
Güven Hospital offers far more than excellent dental treatment. Their approach to health is comprehensive, international, and human, with specialists across many fields, modern facilities, and clear communication throughout.
If you are considering medical care in Turkey and have questions about my experience, feel free to get in touch. I am always happy to share more and help where I can.
